The Giss (Hiss?) family

Commemorative candle. The Taimyr Region during the years of political repressions. Memoirs

Christian Christianovich Giss was born in the Saratov Region, ASSR of the Volga-Germans in 1925. In 1955 he was the first to receive a certificate of honour, and in 1956-57 he was awarded a medal, due to his participation in the Exhibition of National Economic Achievement . In the 1970s Christian Christianovich was appointed deputy chairman of a kolkhoz farm called „Aurora of the Taimyr“.

For many years he lived int the settlement of Nosok, Ust-Yeniseysk District. He enjoyed affection and respect from among the village people. In 1995 he was awarded the title of a „Merited citizen of the Taimyr area. His two sons, Yuriy and Raimond, who were born on the Taimyr Peninsula, both live in Dudinka. Raimond Giss is a musician by profession, he gives lessons to students of the Taimyr College and leads the German choir„Nadezhda“ („Hope“). People living in the Taimyr Region have been listening to Germjan songs for more than 15 years by now.
