The buildings for state authorities were built from sawn up beams.
The houses with two apartments each for families of officers and civil servants were constructed from prefabricated materials. The component parts were produced by the Krasnoyarsk timber-processing industry and transported to the construction sites by barges; the roofs were not covered with tiles but with pressed Finnish wood wool. Huge canvas tents served as temporary dwellings, in which about twenty families were housed at a time; the window panes were from organic glass with openings for tubes. These tents were built in square cavities, which had been dug into the ground before (about 1 meter in depth). Inside the walls were caolked by felt and afterwards planked with plywood. Right in the middle there was a corridor; on either side, separated by coarse pieces of cloth, were the rooms with two bedsteads each an a table between them. The tenants used to hang their clothes on lines and put their shoes under the bedsteads, where they were also keeping their suitcases. Two or three iron stoves to heat the tents were put up in the alleyway between the different living sections. The people cooked their meals on these stoves and additionally available primus stoves. Water was supplied to the houses in wooden barrels by special automobiles. Stone coal served as heating material. It was stored in canopied shelters to protect them from snow and rain.Alongside the roads of Yermakovo sidewalks were built from thick wooden blocks, and in particularly muddy places, where the ground was all sodden, the people laid out planks from trunks cut into halves, so that automobiles could pass without problems; the plank roads bore a certain resemblance to wooden railtracks.
The main center of amusement was the House of Culture. It was situated in the
highest place, from which one had a splendid view on the river Yenisey, the
densely wooded right riverbank
and the aerodrome. The passing steamers and motorships also left a good
impression on the people. The hill was the place from where they could wait for
the ships to arrive and watch them leave again. In the premisses of the House of
Culture they often organized concerts by young people from the village, amateur
dramatic plays oder military ensembles singing songs; Loval militiamen and
artists from among the prisoners performed danses. Moreover, they presented cine
films, organized amusing evenings and many more performances.
