The history of aviation in the city of Yeniseysk began in March 1926, when a plane of the company "Dobroljot", flown by pilot J.I. Golshev, stopped over near the river Yenisey during its flight from Krasnoyarsk to Turukhansk. In 1934, a separate sub-unit of the Krasnoyarsk flight squad appeared in Yeniseysk. The aircraft fleet consisted of the types: Po-2, Sh-2 (amphibious aircraft), R-5. The development of the areas for aircrafts and water aerodrome were accompanied by serious difficulties, as all above-ground installations had to be accomplished by axes, spades and crowbars. There was no road transport infrastructure and even no telephone connection. In the winter the pilots were confronted with huge snow drifts on the runway, gasoline for the planes had to be brought along by horses and oxen. Nevertheless, aircrafts were vitally important for the city and the district. In 1937, the squadron was reorganized into the Yeniseysk Squadron.
The airfield workers were confronted with big challenges, as was our entire people in the years of the Great Patriotic War. Almost all men involved in the airport business had left for the front. Hence, children, adolescents and women were mobilized to work for the airfield. After the end of the Great Patriotic War, the development of air transport in the Yeniseysk district was particularly fast-paced. The airfield was equipped with a radio center and a weatherstation. They also had their own power station.
After the war, new LI-2 aircrafts arrived, which could already accommodate 24 passengers, and the airfield of Yeniseysk became a refuge for passing IL-12 aircrafts and captured JU-52 planes. Life, however, does not stand still. Technical service becomes stronger and stronger, and at the end of the 1950s, in the early 1960s it will be the important structural unit within the air force. At that time there was the airline maintenance and repair workshop (LERM), later renamed into Aeronautical Engineering Base (ATB). In order to support the successful development of aircrafts, the Ministry of Civil Aviation provides helicopters with turbo engines of the Mi-2 and I-8 types, as well as aircrafts type AN-24 and N-26. In this context, an objective control service is going to be created, and the laboratory of the base for aeronautical-electronic equipment will be expanded.
The 1970s and 1980s represent the heyday of the airline.
After the perestroika, just 2 out of 35 passenger and cargo planes and 150 from previously 1400 employees were still existing. In December 1999, the former air carrier, which had been spun off from the stock of the “Yeniseysk Meridian” Airline, was reorganized into a structured subdivision of the Krasnoyarsk base for aerial surveillance of forests.
