On the day of commemoration of the victims of political repressions the traditional action “light a candle” took place in the capital of the region. Not purely accidentally burning candles and wreathes were lowered to the watres of the Yenisey, for thousands of victims of repressions were deported to the north just via this river during the gloomy years of stalinism.
There was a serious of arrangements carried out in Krasnoyarsk on the occasion of the beginning of the Great Terror exactly 70 years ago, all organized by the Museum Center on the Strelka, The “Permafrost Museum” in Igarka and the “Memorial” organization. The victims of repressions were also commemorated by museum readings about “The tragic aspects of history”, which scholars and university teachers took part in. The Museum Center organized the showing of feature and documentary films, which illuminated the subjects of freedom and tyranny in Russia’s history of the 20th century. One of these films, “The road of death” by the Krasnoyarsk TV journalist Andrei Grishakov, was about the construction of the railroad line from Salekhard to Igarka. Several exhibitions were opened, as well: the photo and video exhibition “The construction project N° 503” (about just this railroad line), the exhibition “Weak edges” (dedicated to the events of the year 1937; it was realized by the assistance of workers of the newspaper “Krasnoyarsk Worker”) and the exhibition “Russia – Kharbin – USSR” (dedicated to the fate of emigrants).
