Krasnoyarsk can do without any Stalin monument

In connection with the request of the Krasnoyarsk section of the Communist Party to put up a Stalin monumentin Krasnoyarsk, the regional Krasnoyarsk social organisation of victims of illegal political repressions has already received numerous letters of protest from members of the organisation.

The activities shown by those, who plead for the erection of the monument represent a tremendous provocation – in fact, it cannot be characterized in other words -, which at the most will cause a disruption of society. And it is just this very disruption, this destabilization which they mostly need – it has always been the same thing with them: their principle – the worse, the better.

Nowadays, we dispose of sufficient information about Stalin’s role with regard to the extermination of millions of citizens of the Soviet-Union and about his direct guilt, his responsibility for the heavy price the people had to pay for the victory in the Great Patriotic War. What do we need to raise a monument of the “generalissimo” for – nowadays, when everything in the country has changed – a different political structure, different priorities, a different attitude towards the events of the past years?

We do hope that those who are heading our municipal authorities, who did a great deal for the successful development of the city, are going to demonstrate wisdom and long-sightedness in this serious question, as well, by giving the Stalinists and their request a a condign reply.

E. Tsutskaryova, Chairman of the board of the regional Krasnoyarsk social organization of invalids and pensioners an victims of illegal political repressions
