Report given by Amalia Alexandrovna Ganzyuk

Amalia Alexandrovna Ganzyuk was born in the hamlet of Krasnyi Kut, Saratov Region, in 1933.

Mother: Luisa Yakovlevna Schek (born on the 21.09.1896), father: Alexander Yakovlevich Schek (born on the 27.04.1894). The family comprised her sisters Yekaterina (born in 1921), Lisa (born in 1927) and Marusya (born in 1930), as well as her brothers Sasha (born in 1936) and Yasha (born in 1941).

In June 1941 they became victims of repressions. She reports that they lead a very good, wealthy life before their exile (they owned a house, four goats, a flock of sheep, forty chickens and ducks, as well as pigs). They learned about their resettlement from radio; moreover, soldiers were running around all over the place. Having been informed about the forced leave, they began to pack their belongings and get ready for the trip, for which they were given no more than three days. Everybody took along just the mostly needed things (foodstuffs to go, clothes and a few personal belongings). Like the majority of the victims of repressions they went in freight-cars up to Krasnoyarsk and then continued the trip by barge all the way up to Galanino. Her father was immediately sent to the kolkhoz as a warehouseman, while mother was not obliged to accept a job as she was pregnant at that time. The locals used to offend and abuse the new residents; however, this continued only until the time when her mother joined the kolkhoz and complained about the behavior of the inhabitants. Once a month they were obliged to go to the commandant’s office to get registered. The re-settlers were afraid to say any unnecessary words. Hence, they set off for registration and then immediately went back to work.
