David Bogdanovich Wiegel (1890-1943), German, born in Schwedt, canton Krassny Yar, lived in ENGELS, in the Autonomous Republic of the Volga-Germans, in a house of his own, on Poligraficheska Street No. 21.He worked as a baker at the technical college for pilots.
On 03.09.41 he and his family had to go on military transport No. 823 and were deported by the Soviets to the KRASNOYARSK region:
At KRUTOYAR station, in the district of UZHUR, they were discharged and stayed there in exile. In summer 1942 they were taken from KRUTOYAR to KRASNOYARSK, then down the Yenissey, until they reached the settlement of KANGATOVO in the district of TURUKHANSK (on the right bank of the river). There the exiles had to catch fish; for that purpose they were given ragged fishing nets and boats with holes in the bottom.
In September 1942 D.B. WIEGEL received a summons to appear in TURUKHANSK. He went there by vessel "Spartakus" and did not return. He was arrested on 14.09.42. On 13.04.43 the TURUKHANSK People's Court sentenced him to 5 years on section 131. He was taken to KUREYKA, into the "Sovkhoz" of the NORILLag. There, in the camp, he died from pneumonia on 19.10.43.
In 1946 they sent his daughter Amalia to KRASNOTURINSK in the SVERDLOVSK region.
His elder daugter, Erna ALTERGOT (born in 1912, lives in Germany), was taken into exile to the district of TYUKHTET in 1941, together with her husband. In 1946 they were also moved to KRASNOTURINSK.
In 1948 the WIEGEL family was transferred to TURUKHANSK, and in the following summer to the settlement of BORODINO, about 30 km away from Verkhneimbatsk.
From 1950 Richard WIEGEL, his sister Frieda, as well as their mother lived in exile in YENISSEYSK.
The members of the WIEGEL family were released from exile early in 1956.
D. (B.) WIEGEL and A. (A.) WIEGEL received their rehabilitation by the Saratov regional UVD (Administration of Internal Affairs) on 21.01.97. R. (D.) WIEGEL was rehabilitated on 15.06.94.
