Is it true that political prisoners were not released from detention during the war?

Many are convinced that prisoners who had been sentenced on section 58 were not released from the camps (even in case their term of imprisonment had already expired), but were kept their „until further notice“. For some camps this practice was true, but in the Kraslag or the Norillag, for example, they were released after the expiration of their term and during the war. And in many camps (e.g. in the Amur and Ural regions) they even closed the files of those prisoners sentenced on section 58 and released them early for reasons of inability to work. Such a directive existed with the NKVD in 1942.
