David Davidovich Wais (Weis) . The first year was a very hard one

Commemorative candle. The Taimyr Region during the years of repression . Memoirs

Фоос(Вайс) А.Я.Born in the city of Engels, Saratow Region in 1925. In accordance with the ukase dated the 28th of August 1941, we were deported and then resettled in Siberia. and in the summer of 1942 they took us to the Ust-Yeniseysk District on board a lighter. The ship was crowded uith people – we were 350 people in all. We were assigned to different settlements: Ust-Port, Baykalovsk, Ladygin Yar. I got to the Nosonovsk Island. The first year was a very hard one. I was to go fishing together with Kaspar Mel.

Since 1963 we have been living in Karaul.. I have been working for the fishing industry for 21 years.

In Nikandrovsk I became acquainted with my wife to-be, Amalia Yakovlevna Foos. We got married in Nosonovsk in 1947. She is also from the Volga. My parents, as well as the parents of my wife, died early, so that we were all alone, without our families. It was a hard time. And all the youngsters died from serious infestation by lice.

We were forced to pull and tow treetrunks without any mechanic means, and we suffered from terrible hunger. One time, I remember, we did not eat anything for three days. They would not even alloow us to eat fish; and during the first year we did not have good fishing results, either. In the 1950s wie lived in Baykalovsk and in Sidorovsk. We have five children – four daughters and a son..

Recorded in the settlement of Karaul in 1995
