Keep our hopes

Good day to all staff members of the newspaper „30th October“!

The reason for my letter to you was the deep desire to say thank you to the members of the Krasnoyarsk “Memorial” Organization for their professionalism, unfailing readyness for action and humanity – characteristics, which have become quite rare nowadays.

The 1940s brought about a tragic turning point in the life of our grandmother’s, Wilma Davovna Rekis’, family. In June 1941 she, as well as her mother Kristina Yanovna Tsaunite and her sister Irina Davovna Tsaunite, were deported for political reasons by administrative means from the city of Tsesis, Latvian SSR, to the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

They were separated from their father, about whose fate they never heard anything again.

Kristina Yanovna died in the settlement of Birilyussy, Krasnoyarsk Territory, in 1942.

Tatiana Lavrentevna Moiseeva, jurist of the Krasnoyarsk “Memorial” Organization, gave our family the needed legal assistance with regard to rehabilitation problems.; she made applications for inevitable archival documents, and, in fact, succeeded in getting information on our great-grandfather Davis Tsaunite. Due to Tatiana Lavrentevna’s help and intervention we learned that he was buried somewhere in the Sverdlovsk Region, where they kept him prisoner of the “Sevurlag” forced labour camp in 1942. The displacement of the family was acknowledged an illegal action and our relatives received their rehabilitation. Even though this happened comparatively late, historic truth was restored. We, the ancestors, yet need to learn and understand a lot about the history of our family and the history of the whole country in general. The activities of the “Memorial” Organization releases the past from the unknown, for, no matter how difficult to bear and bitter it was, historic truth and justice has to be restored in any case; elsewise there is no guarantee at all for the terrifying events of the 1930s and 1940s to happen once again in the future.

Thank you for your work, thank you for keeping and fulfilling people’s hopes. We wish you success, strong confidence and belief in the necessity of what you are doing for the country and the simple citizen.

Yours faithfully

Sergei and Liudmila Golovach,
Krasnoyarsk Territory
