Day in commemoration of the victims of political repressions

Since 1991 people all over in Russia solemnize the Day in Commemoration of the victims of political repressions. Today people gathered in the premises of the Museum of local lore to remember in a minute’s silence those citizens who were politically persecuted, although they had not done anything wrong, were entirely innocent.

Today the number of victims of political repressions in the whole history of the existence of the state amounts to approximately 800 000 individuals. This number includes all those, who were adversely affected by repressions of their relatives and related parties, who were deprived a complete family and who, as a result, did not get the chance to experience a normal childhood. It is very hard to say, how many people in point of fact suffered from cruelties of the politicians, for numerous proceedings instituted against people, were considered as strictly confidential; the cases were heard, without attracting any further attention, or – did not exist at all.

During the period of compulsory expropriation 2000 farmer’s families were deported from Khakassia to Tomsk, Irkutsk and the very north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Until 1937 there was silence, and a little later, directives arrived from the regional centers to uncover and exterminate enemies of the people.

Fabricated criminal files of that time, which served as deterrent towards society, enable us to make an approximate calculation of the number of people repressed without reason. Today 414 people are living in Sayanogorsk – they all had to suffer from repressions.
