Exile/Camp Report given by Ivan Bekker (or Becker), son of Andrej Bekker)

In September 1941 the Volga German BEKKER family was deported by the Communists from the village of ISSENBURG, canton of GMELIN, Autonomous Republic of the Volga Germans:

They were exiled to the little village of BASAN (near the village of KEMSKOE), district of BOLSHE-MURTINSK (today KAZACHINSK), somewhere in the far-off Taiga.

In January 1942 the Communists sent I. BEKKER into the "Trud-Army", to the KRASLag, behind RESHOT (probably to the "1st Unit" in Beresovka). However, he was discharged in spring and returned to BAZAN.

K. BEKKER had been sent to the KRASLag in company with him. He was stuck in the "Trud-Army" in KRASLag until 1946, and when he was "released" from the camp, he was not even allowed to go to his exiled family. They sent him to KIRGISTAN, to the mines of MAJLI-SAJ, in the DZHALAL-ABAD region (today OSHSK). He stayed there until the end of his exile.

In the middle of 1942 the Communists sent Alexander GERMAN into the "Trud-Army", however, not to the KRASLag, but to the region of SVERDLOVSK. In 1946 he returned in bad health and died in exile in 1951.

Alexander BEKKER was an invalid (his right hand was missing). He worked in the kolkhoz (collective farm) as a bookkeeper, until he was actually freed from exile.

M. BEKKER's son, the father of Ivan BEKKER - Andrej BEKKER (1900-1951), was deported to the village of SHILLING in the canton of BALZER; he was a carpenter and had worked as head of production in the factory in BALZER in earlier times.

He was deported to the NOVOSIBIRSK region. Beginning 1942 they sent him into the "Trud-Army", but he was lucky. He was taken to OGAREVKA, in the TULSK region (near SHCHOKINO), where he worked as a master at the craftman's school.

His wife died in the twenties, his son Alexander (born in 1920) served as a lieutenant in the army and is presumed to have died at the front. Another son, Andrej BEKKER (1918-1943) also served in the army. He was sent into the "Trud-Army", where he died.

After the war, A. BEKKER was sent back into exile again, to CHULYM in the NOVOSIBIRSK area. In 1946 I. BEKKER was given permission to move to the place, where his father lived. There I. BEKKER worked as a bookkeeper. He was freed on 07.02.56.

Andrej BEKKER died in exile in CHULYM.

M. BEKKER, A. GERMAN, Alexander BEKKER (son of Filipp) and Elisabeth BEKKER stayed in BAZAN until the end of their exile. They were freed at the beginning of 1956. Later M. BEKKER and A. GERMAN lived in Talovka, in the district of Bolshe-Murtinsk.

A. BEKKER was rehabilitated by the UVD (Administration of Internal Affairs) of the Novosibirsk region on 24.01.94, I. BEKKER by the UVD of the Volgograd region on 11.04.94.
