Report given by Alexandra Petrovna Diener (Kruglova)

Alexandra Petrovna Diener (Kruglova) was born in the family of the exile Peter Vasilevich Kruglov-Sidorov in 1951. In 1956 he was rehabilitated; nonetheless his daughter still feels anguish thinking that he was punished absolutely unjustified.

Peter Vasilevich was born in the city of Tsaritsyn (Stalingrad) in 1911. From the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he served for the Black Sea Fleet and was involved in the defense of Sevastopol. In the summer 1941 he got wounded, was captured by the Germans and taken to a concentration camp on Polish territory. Peter Vasilevich was well versed in radio engineering; hence, he and other Soviet prisoners of war, who were also practitioners, were forced to deal with the repair of war-technical equipment. At the end of the war, when the Red Army drew near, a group of prisoners attempted to escape from the German camp, and Peter Vasilevich succeeded to meet his comrades again. However, all escapees were immediately sent to Soviet camps without any special judicial proceedings. In April 1945 Peter Vasilevich was sentenced to a 10 years camp detention. Having served 5 years, he was sent into exile in December 1950, which meant – forced settlement in the Kazachinsk District, Krasnoyarsk Territory. Here he became acquainted with Alexandra Petrovna‘s mother, and soon-after the young couple got a daughter.

Under conditions of forced settlement Peter Vasilevich was supposed to work for the zone constructing timber plank lanes, but when they heard about his technical education, they sent him to the radio station. However, he did not come to terms with life in Siberia. As Alexandra Petrovna says, her father was seriously afflicted with the injustice that had befallen him, and that he recalled again and again all those humiliations and mortifications, which prisoners of the GULAG were exposed to. After his rehabilitation he returned to his home town and never ever came back to Siberia…
