Exile/Camp Report given by Rimma Leontyevna Ivanova

Rimma, daughter of Leonty, lived in Krasnoyarsk together with her parents. Her father Leontiy Mikhailovich STEINGART (1899-1942), Jew, was born in the little village of Terentyevka (not far from the village of Esaulovo, today district of Beryosovka, 50 km away from Krasnoyarsk). He was the brother of A.M. STEINGART (also see Exile/Camp Report given by B.A. Katshayeva) and worked as a shop manager.

On the 22.04.1933 the district court (?) sentenced L. STEINGART to 10 years according to the „Law of 07.08.1932“.

In 1941 he was prisoner of the reform labour colony No. 6 in the town of KYAKHTA, in the Buryat-Mongolian Autonomous Republic (BMAR, today Buryatia). On the 24.10.1941 the Supreme Court of the BMAR sentenced him to maximum penalty on section 58-10, 2 (Anti-Soviet agitation, „he brought the Soviet press into disrepute“). He himself did not admit his guilt.

He was shot dead by a firing squad in ULAN-UDE on the 01.01.1942. The public prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Buryatia rehabilitated him posthumously on the 02.08.1993.

21.01.1995, recorded by V.S. Birger, Krasnoyarsk, „Memorial“ Society
