Exile/Camp Report given by Jekaterina Sebastianovna Sabbateyeva

Sebastian Sebastianovich FINK (FINCK),1907-1938, lived with his wife and children in a two-story wooden house of his own at SHUVALOVO station, district of PARGALOVO, in the LENINGRAD region (today the city of St. Petersburg is situated within this territory), in Vybor Road Road No. 8. He worked on the Liebknecht kolkhoz (collective) farm as a driver. His wife worked there, as well. The Communists came to his home and took him away on 11.04.38. During the house search they confiscated several documents: his passport, his service book and a topographic map. On 20.05.38 the "Dvoyka" (= out-of-court institution that sentenced people to death in their absence) sentenced him on section 58-9,10,11 (as being a "member of a counter-revolutinary, fascist sabotage and terror organization") and he was shot dead by a firing squad in LENINGRAD on 11.06.38. On 27.03.42 the Soviets deported his family from SHUVALOVO:

They were driven across the Ladoga Lake, then forced into a train car, equipped with plank beds and a cast-iron stove. The exiles were unloaded in ACHINSK late in April. They had to get on trucks and were taken to the village of SHCHELEVO, Village Soviet of MELETSK, in the district of BIRILYUSK. They were divided and sent to the different villagers' huts, where they were supposed to live. The fishing trust employed them. They had to gather Bear's garlic (wild garlic) and deliver it to a collecting point.

In summer 1943 M. I. FINK received the commandant's official permission to move to BIRILYUSSY (district town in those times). Early in the 50s Jekaterina FINK worked as a machinist in the district department of agriculture. In 1953 the commandant's office allowed her to go to BOGOTOL, in order to take part in bookkeeping courses, and Valentina FINK was permitted to do a correspondance course for accounting in KRASNOYARSK.

V. (S.) FINK was freed from exile on 17.01.56, J. (S.) FINK on 24.01.56; M. I. FINK and M. S. FINK were also released early in 1956.

S. (S.) FINK was posthumously rehabilitated by the Krasnoyarsk regional UVD (Administration of Internal Affairs) on 05.12.96.

J. (S.) FINK received her rehabilitation by the St. Petersburg and Leningrad regional GUVD (= Main Administration of Internal Affairs) on 07.05.97.

June 12, 1997, recorded by V.S. Birger, Krasnoyarsk, "Memorial" Society
